herolikedad: (but mom!)

Kyle is a hotblooded youth who acts before he thinks. He is more inclined to follow his heart rather than his head. His impulsive behavior is shown early on in canon when he argues with his mother about leaving on a journey and he decides to run away without preparation. He is rather optimistic, always believing in a solution even if it's not in front of him, revealed early on when he feels Reala's initial rejection is just a minor setback. His optimism combined with his hotblooded tendencies makes him extremely stubborn. He refuses to give up, like when Reala rejects him repeatedly until she eventually sees the good in his heart and lets him escort her around to find her hero. He clings to what he believes to with a passion. For example, he harshly criticizes Dymlos for not taking action when Barbatos kidnaps Atwight, and when he declares confusion and outrage when he witnesses the assignment of a number to a baby in the bleak future. It is possible for his resolve to be shattered, like when Reala calls him out for being naive and ignorant and when Elraine reveals that if she dies, Reala will die as well. However, he is quick to stand back up with a new resolve, as he is able to recover from both events with a stronger heart.

He is also somewhat sheltered due to a childhood trauma. When he was small, he witnessed his father's murder and repressed the memory. His mother and his surrogate brother Loni end up becoming overprotective of him, afraid that he may be fragile if he recovers his memory of the event. As such, he is rather childish in the beginning until Reala tells him off for being ignorant. He becomes considerably more mature, though his overall intelligence does not grow with his maturity. He displays his new maturity best when the party travels back in time to the Aether Wars and he is able to work with the Swordian Masters without completely geeking out over it.

Kyle is very friendly and usually displays kindness to strangers unless he recognizes that they are an immediate threat. He trusts others very easily. This blind trust is best exemplified when he trusts Judas without question when they first met. While Loni openly expresses suspicions over Judas, Kyle is friendly towards him and trusts him to help them escape the prison they shared. He also tends to talk a lot, and is easily distracted, lending to his amiability.

Though he is easily distracted, his friends are able to keep him on the right track, whether they are with him or not. When Kyle ends up in an unfamiliar place, such as when Fortuna warps the group to Nanaly's timeline, his first instincts are to find his friends. He will more often than not make new friends in searching, as he was able to make quick friends with Nanaly.

While it is not very apparent in the mothership title Tales of Destiny 2, official alternate universe media that preserve Kyle's personality and basic back story imply Kyle is afraid of, or uncomfortable with being alone. This stems from his father's absence in his life, along with his mother and Loni sheltering him, and being surrounded by orphans all of his life. His optimism and loyalty to his friends however balances out his fear along with their support and the fact that he is never really left alone throughout the entire game. He will initially waver when he is alone, but immediately hold onto his faith that they'll meet again. When he watches his friends disappear one by one as the timeline resets, he is initially sad, but promises they'll always stay together. He is able to fulfill his promise even after the timeline reset, as he is able to feel familiarity from Harold's name, Judas' mask, and the seven year old Nanaly if the player chooses to do her side quest before going to the Laguna ruins.
