[ Character's Name ] : Kyle Dunamis
[ Character's Age ] : 15
[ Series ] : Tales of Destiny 2
[ Canon Point ] : Right before reuniting with Reala after resetting the timeline
[ History ] :
Born in Cresta, Kyle lived his entire life in the Dunamis Orphanage with his mother Rutee, the director of the orphanage. Both of his parents were two of the Four Heroes, Swordian Masters who saved the world two years prior to his birth. Due to his mother's job, his parents give him the last name "Dunamis" to reflect him being raised at the orphanage. As such, he treats the orphans like family, and is especially close to Loni Dunamis. However, when he was approximately five, his father Stahn was killed before him. He represses the memory, believing that his father set out on a journey around that period.
Since his parents were both heroes, he makes it his life goal to become one himself. His journey to become one gets a kick start when Loni returns from Atamoni Shindan to recover a Lens of great value. The lens housed a strange girl, Reala, who Kyle immediately feels connected to. Although she initially shrugs him off, he continues to pursue her, convinced she holds his destiny in becoming a hero. She eventually comes to accept his help when they are attacked by Barbatos in a chapel, and are joined by Judas at the same time.
While getting Reala to different places, the group ends up traveling to a bleak future where people are not as free as they are in the past. They meet Nanaly there, and upon returning back to their own times, Reala becomes annoyed by Kyle's naivity and yells at him for it. Upset but realizing the truth and weight of those words, he begins to mature. While he does not give up on his dream of becoming a hero, he sets helping Reala fix the world as his priority, ironically becoming the hero she needs.
He eventually recovers his memory of Stahn's death when Elraine attempts to separate each of the party members in their dreams. Although the knowledge hurts him, he does not lose his hope to become a hero and fix the timeline. With Reala's help, he is able to break his friends from their dreams, strengthening their bonds in the process.
After this, they transgress time yet again, this time heading back to the Aeth'er Wars, where they meet their final party member, Harold. Kyle is initially excited to meet these past heroes and even help them out until Barbatos kidnaps Atwight and Dymlos is resigned to allow her to die. Enraged by this, Kyle declares that Dymlos is "not a hero, but a regular military dog" and sets out to save Atwight on his own. His resolve, hotbloodedness, and optimism inspire Dymlos to rescue Atwight. However, he has to hold all of his drive back and allow Karell Berselius to die as he does in history, which he deeply regrets.
Kyle and his party then take the steps to prevent Elraine's appearance. When they are transported to Dycroft, Kyle impulsively saves the Four Heroes and unintentionally inspires his own name (Stahn, being impressed by Kyle's proweress and unaware that he will be his future son, declares that his name is a very good one)
Kyle eventually learns that defeating Elraine and Fortuna means that Reala will disappear as well. This marks the first time his goals become conflicted with his ideals. He seeks help from the surviving Four Heroes and finally decides he has to go through with their plans, even if it means Reala will be erased too. However, he never lets go of his faith that Reala will somehow survive because she has a special link to him.
After the final battle, he has to endure the pain of knowingly causing not only Reala's disappearance, but he has to bid farewell to his friends who must return to the fixed timeline. By shattering the Fortuna's lens, the timeline resets to a state where she never existed. Everything fixes itself, including Stahn's death. Kyle is warped back to the start of his journey sans memories of it. However, his special bonds with his friends don't disappear as he feels a strange familiarity to Harold Berselius' name and Judas' mask. He also retains his development in maturity, surprising his own father when he tells him he can't just become a hero overnight. Kyle and Loni decide to go on a new adventure in the fixed timeline to the place where Kyle and Reala first met. While Loni waited outside, Kyle goes to explore the ruins...
[ Personality ] :
Kyle is a hotblooded youth who acts before he thinks. He is more inclined to follow his heart rather than his head. He is rather optimistic, always believing in a solution even if it's not in front of him. He is stubborn as well. He clings to what he believes to with a passion. For example, he harshly criticizes Dymlos for not taking action when Barbatos kidnaps Atwight. It is possible for his resolve to be shattered, like when Reala calls him out for being naive and ignorant. However, he is quick to stand back up with a new resolve.
He is also somewhat sheltered due to a childhood trauma. As such, he is rather childish in the beginning until Reala tells him off for being ignorant. He becomes considerably more mature, though his overall intelligence does not grow with his maturity.
Kyle is very friendly and usually displays kindness to strangers unless he recognizes that they are an immediate threat. He trusts others very easily, best exemplified when he trusts Judas without question when they first met. He also tends to talk a lot, and is easily distracted, lending to his amiability.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
On the physical side, he is fast compared to his predecessors, but not as fast compared to his party member Judas. Though he has some magic, it is relatively weak.
One of his greatest strengths however, is his heart and commitment to his goals. He does what he believes is right, usually on first impulse. He is not afraid to yell at others either for stopping to think when little time is available. Because of this, his intelligence is one of his weakest points, as he has a difficult time grasping many subjects. He is also easily distracted when there is no action, meaning his guard is rarely ever up.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Kyle's heart is strong enough to remember important people to him even when he isn't supposed to know them. At the end of Tales of Destiny 2 when he resets the timeline, he still feels connected to names and objects of his party members.
[ Sample ] :
Kyle woke up to the sound of a pan and ladle banging together. He sat up, dazed from the long dream that instantly escaped his memory. As his mother huffed and headed to her room to wake up her husband, Kyle felt tremendously happy yet saddened at the same time. He was confused by the conflicting emotions in his heart, but banished the thought at the smell of breakfast downstairs. He became fully awake when he heard the awful banging that could wake the dead again and scampered to put on his clothes.
Breakfast was meager as always, but Kyle was thankful for it. Although his mother tasked him with chores, his father pulled him aside to spar, which he happily accepted. He giggled to himself as his father took the brunt of his mother's wrath and skipped out to the yard with sword in hand.
"I'm ready Dad!"
Battle was one of the few things Kyle could focus on without becoming distracted. He knew that becoming distracted in the middle of a fight could be deadly, though he had never been in a real one. Stahn easily deflected his attacks and broke through his defenses. Kyle was losing energy fast. When he heard his father ask why his sword was beginning to falter, something stirred deep inside him. He felt the deep desire to not give up bubbling out of him, stronger than it had ever been. With a sudden burst of energy, Kyle quickly swung his sword, knocking his father's out of his hand. The look of surprise on Stahn's face gave him satisfaction, but could not stop his knees from buckling and his body from falling over. He heard his father fuss, but praise his skill and tell him he was closer to becoming a hero. He had waited a long time to hear those words, but something about it felt a little wrong. Before he knew it, words slipped out of his own mouth.
"A hero isn't something you set out to become. You one become one just because you want to."
They surprised Kyle himself; he had no idea where that even came from. Yet, something in his heart told him that was the right thing. The strange ache that made him cherish the day more than he usually would flared up from the look of surprise and pride on Stahn's face. From that moment he decided he needed to go out. There was something he needed to do, even if it didn't make him a hero immediately. A calling was pulling his heart, and he need to know what it was.
